20th Century
A veritable classic that combines gin with white creme de cacao for a cocktail every bit as luxurious as its inspiration.

A stone cold classic, the 20th Century was first created by C. A. Tuck, a British bartender, sometime before 1937. The cocktail was named after the 20th Century Limited, an express train that ran between New York and Chicago until 1967.

The train was known as "The Most Famous Train In The World" and thought of as the height of luxury, with art-deco casings, a red carpet leading passengers to their carriages and on-board barbers (let's hope the ride was smooth!). Carnations were given to the men boarding the train, whilst the women were handed flowers and perfume. 

This cocktail is just as opulent as its namesake, with subtle hints of chocolate and herbal Lillet adding depth and complexity.

20ml      Lillet Blanc
20ml      White Creme de Cacao
20ml      Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

Garnish     Orange zest

Ice             Cubes (for shaking)

Glass         Cocktail glass

1. Add all your ingredients to the shaker.

2. Fill shaker to the brim with cubes of ice.

3. Shake hard for 30 seconds.

4. Fine strain into an ice-cold cocktail glass.


Bartender’s Top Tips

Remember to chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before you fill it, to keep your drink colder and fresher for longer.

Fine straining through a mesh strainer (like a tea strainer), removes all the small chips of ice to create a silky smooth texture.
