The term “modern classic” is thrown about a lot in the cocktail world these days. But the London Calling is arguably the most deserving of this mantle.

The London Calling is one of the more contemporary classics that have spread across the bartending world like wildfire. It has quickly become the go-to gin cocktail of choice by those in the know. It was created at the London outpost of Milk & Honey, arguably the worlds most famous cocktail bar that started the craft cocktail revolution. In 2002 Chris Jepson created this iconic drink for a cocktail competition as a simple twist on a Gin Sour and has remained on the bars menu ever since - a testament to the drink’s sheer popularity.

45ml      Gin
10ml      Fino Sherry
20ml      Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
20ml      Sugar syrup (1 part sugar : 1 part water)
2 dash   Orange bitters


Garnish Grapefruit peel

Ice Cubes (for shaking only)

Recommended Gins

1. Add all your ingredients to the shaker.

2. Fill shaker to the brim with cubes of ice.

3. Shake hard for 30 seconds.

4. Fine strain into a cocktail glass over ice.

5. Garnish with a coin of grapefruit peel


Bartender’s Top Tips

Remember to chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before you fill it, to keep your drink colder and fresher for longer.

Fine straining through a mesh strainer (like a tea strainer), removes all the small chips of ice and bits of mint to create a silky smooth texture.
